In an effort to enhance the quality and recognition of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) explored opportunities for collaboration with Mr. Wilson Garu, First Assistant Secretary of Papua New Guinea for the Division of TVET. The meeting was held on January 2, 2025 and led by the APACC President Prof. Dr. Suresh Kumar Dhameja, together with APACC Officer, Ms. Julifer Madeja.

During the meeting, Ms. Madeja presented the APACC video that highlighted APACC’s mission, objectives, organizational structure, and the APACC accreditation process. Prof. Dr. Dhameja further emphasized APACC’s commitment to renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PNG as a step toward quality assurance and continual improvement of PNG’s TVET institutions. They also discussed potential collaborations with PNG in the future.

Mr. Garu expressed a keen interest in pursuing APACC accreditation for selected PNG institutions in hopes of boosting the quality and international recognition of the country’s TVET programs. This can also help PNG’s capacity to produce competent graduates equipped with industry-aligned skills and knowledge.

The meeting concluded on a positive note as both parties agreed to continue the discussion on the necessary steps of the accreditation process and finalize the renewed MOU in support of enhancing the TVET sector in Papua New Guinea.
