As the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) carries on with its accreditation activities in Thailand, Khonkaen Vocational College (KVC) became the third TVET institution from the same country to undergo the onsite visit from March 2 to 4, 2018. APACC deployed its team of certified accreditors led by Dr. Romulita Alto as the Team Leader to conduct the 3-day accreditation undertaking. She was with APACC National Coordinator for Accreditation in Malaysia and Department of Polytechnic Education Director for Curriculum Development Pn. Noor Aidi Binti Nadzri and CPSC Executive Secretary Mr. Bryan Noel Lazaro.

On the first day, Khonkaen Province Governor Dr. Somsak Jungthrakul and Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Prachakom Juntarachit and industry partners graced the Opening Program. The Governor welcomed the APACC team to the province and was proud of KVC for taking on this challenge. The OVEC Deputy Secretary-General, on the other hand, expressed his appreciation to APACC for its contribution in developing TVET institutions and acknowledged the efforts of KVC for undergoing the APACC accreditation. Following the messages delivered by guests, KVC Director Mrs. Nongyao Ganlayalak provided a thorough background about the college and its achievements. She concluded by confirming the readiness of KVC for APACC.

Located in Mueang District of Khonkaen Province, which is in the Northeastern region of Thailand, KVC was established in 1939 as an industrial school for girls with program offerings on weaving, clothing construction, cooking and home economics. As the country began to develop its workforce for the labor market, KVC eventually accepted boys and offered more programs. The college, which is one of the 11 TVET institutes in the province, currently offers short courses, vocational certificates, high vocational certificates and bachelor’s degrees in the following fields of study: Commerce, Home Economics, Arts, Tourism, and ICT.

Interviews, observations, validation of the Self-Study Report, tour of facilities and document inspections were undertaken in the assessment of KVC’s compliance with APACC standards. The activity revisited the institution’s performance based on the 7 APACC criteria for measuring quality: (1) Governance and Management, (2) Teaching and Learning, (3) Faculty and Staff, (4) Research and Development, (5) Extension, Consultancy and Linkages, (6) Resources, and (7) Support to Students. Results of the on-site visit activity will be communicated to KVC after the deliberation of the APACC Board.
